JUNE 23: BACK UP THE HUDSON

June 23:  Our destination today is Kingston, New York.  We are hoping that we will receive news that the Erie Canal will be open as it has been closed due to heavy flooding.

This section of the Hudson River is really very beautiful with high cliffs, impressive mansions and expansive bridges.

Bear Mountain Bridge with the Catskill Hills in the background.
Many of the large mansions have been converted to schools or museums as the upkeep is rather expensive.

Approaching West Point.
The castle like structure is quite impressive!

Typical home along the western bank.

A lighthouse marking a rather tricky section of the river.

Lighthouse guarding the entrance to Rondout Creek and the town of Kingston which will be our home for the  next few days.
