JULY 3-4: LEAVING KINGSTON

July 3:  We made the decision to leave Kingston today.  The Erie Canal is still officially closed.  There are rumors it may partially open on July 4 but we decided to change our plans and head up the Champlain Canal to Lake Champlain.  This will mean taking a counter clockwise route to Montreal and Ottawa and going against the current for a short distance.  The good news is that we will be moving after 10 days in Kingston.

Traveling up the Hudson River on a hot and hazy day.

An unusual Lighthouse along the way.

Our early departure allowed us to take advantage of the flood tide which gave us a good push almost all the way to Albany, New York where we encountered an ebb tide which slowed us down to Troy.  We are here for two nights.
River view of Albany-the Capital City of the State of New York.

July 4:  As there are a number of low bridges on the Champlain Canal, we spent the day lowering our mast and antennae in preparation to meet the lower clearance.  Lake Champlain also has very strict discharge regulations so the Captain had to work some magic to disconnect hoses to meet these requirements.

A quiet work day here-hopefully we will see some of the firework display that is scheduled for later-if we can stay awake that long.

Views of downtown Troy  from our marina.

Happy Fourth of July!
