OCTOBER 28-NOVEMBER 1: LEAVING CHATTANOOGA & YES, MA'AM!

October 28:  We really enjoyed our stay in Chattanooga.  What a great town.  Well organized, clean and safe.  Lots for tourists to see and do without the feeling that you are entering a tourist trap environment.  We sampled some of the local fare:  Japanese and Pizza.  Both got a thumbs up!  The local theatre was also impressive.  We saw "Dark of the Moon".  Set in Appalachia and based on the English folk song, "The Ballad of Barbara Allen", the players employed bluegrass music and mountain dialect to tell the tale.  Of all the towns that we have visited so far, this is the first one that we can imagine living in.

On another note, I must say that I really appreciate Southern manners and charm.  I do like hearing the response:   "Yes, Ma'am".

We left Chattanooga on a rainy day but the good news was that we are now going with the current so we made good speed.  We were lucky enough to cruise through the first and only Lock of the day.  The Locks will be easier from now on as we will be going down as we are lowered back to sea level.  Our destination today was Goose Pond Marina where we met up with a group of Loopers who are heading up to Chattanooga.  We enjoyed another good fish dinner at the river restaurant.

October 29-November 1:  We retraced our steps back down the Tennessee River to Grand Harbor Marina  which is at the junction of the Tennessee and the Tombigee Waterway.  Time to reprovision, clean the boat and get ready for the next leg of the journey.

Beautiful Fall Foliage as we headed back down the Tennessee

The 9.8 foot railroad bridge.  Train traffic takes precedence!
